killingworth - saturday 11th july

about killingworth

Earliest evidence of Killingworth dates back to the 12th century. The town we know of today though didn't begin to take shape until the 1960's when construction of the 'new town' began. Two lakes were added to the area as part of the new town construction. The lake is a popular spot for local wildlife, is kept well stocked with fish and is often used by a local angling club and model boating club.

Killingworth is most famous for it's apperance in the 1970's sitcom 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?'. A 19th-century Killingworth was depicted in the Doctor Who episode 'The Mark of the Rani'.
